Danga Bay Chinese New Year - 16 Feb 2007

SILKY CROONER: Malaysia’s prince of pop, Anuar Zain, is set to take the night by storm.

CATCH Anuar Zain and Reshmonu at the Danga Bay Chinese New Year celebrations at Danga Bay, which promises to be just as big a party as the one on New Year's Eve.
The Feb 16 concert to mark the end of the festival will also see performances by Astro's Top Five Talent Quest winners, Rynn Lim Yu Zhong and Joice Kok from Singapore.
Fondly called Malaysia's prince of pop, Shahrul Anuar Zain or Anuar Zain is renowned for his silky vocals. The 36-year-old's latest self-titled album has sold more that 21,000 copies in two months.
Anuar will be joined by Malaysian hip-hop star Reshmonu whose groovy songs such as Walk Away, Cintaku Pergi and Hey Waley have made it big on the charts.
The 31-year-old father of one, who is known as much for his hairstyles as his songs, has won three Anugerah Industry Music Awards for Best Male Vocalist, Best English Artiste and for Best Engineered Album in 2004.
In keeping with the multicultural flavour of the night, the celebrations will feature Chinese language acts such as singer/actor Rynn Lim Yu Zhong who is best known for his pop album In the Rain.
Singaporean Joice Kok, known as "Guo Mei Mei", is also expected to fire up the concert with hit singles Bu Pa Bu Pa (Not afraid, not afraid) and Loshi Ai Da M? (The Mouse So Loves The Rice).
The 2007 Top 5 Astro Talent Quest winners have released their first compilation album, We Will Meet Again, and the concert will see them performing their signature songs.
They are Zax Lee (Retreat), Wayne Chang (Hug You Once Again), Christy Tan (I Still Love You), Crystal Wong (To Be With You) and Jyin Poh (That Day).
In keeping with the Lunar New Year tradition, some 50,000 mandarin oranges will be given out.
There will also be lion dance performances and cultural shows depicting the unique potpourri of the rich cultural traditions of Malaysia.
The event is jointly organised by the Johor government, Iskandar Regional Development Authority, South Johor Investment Corporation (a Khazanah Nasional Bhd-linked company) and Danga Bay.
Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman will open the celebrations at 8pm and if the reception and crowd at the New Year's Eve concert is anything to go by, expect a huge turnout and a merry atmosphere.
