Bandar Seri Begawan - The still-lingering Hari Raya mood in the sultanate was in evidence as the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) celebrated the festivities with a special Hari Raya dinner for its corporate customers yesterday evening at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.
The dinner, which began with a speech by HSBC CEO Tareeq Mahmood, who dressed for the occasion in a Baju Melayu, complete with a Malay songkok, saw the presentation of a cheque to the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation for $10,040.
The cheque, made out to orphans, was received by the CEO of Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Orphans Fund, Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim Hj Mohd Daud.
The donation to the fund and other such foundations throughout this year is part of the HSBC Corporate Responsibility programme. Other funds include the Smarter Centre and Unicef programmes. The programme is a goodwill gesture towards the community made by HSBC branches worldwide and usually includes activities, events and functions that enable the organisation to interact with their clients on a more personal level.
During the dinner, guests were entertained with dance routines by local dance artists `Lively Dancers' and local singers Chong Voon Voon and Noraishah.
A surprise treat was also in store for the guests as HSBC brought in a famous guest artist from Malaysia, singer Anuar Zain, who wooed the audience by belting out some of his popular hits.
Throughout the function, various lucky draw prizes, ranging from flat screen television sets to mobile phone handsets, were also given out to some of the lucky winners.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
